1. Download qt-1.42 from troll.no and extract
2. export QTDIR=`/bin/pwd`
3. ./configure; make install
4. get all kde from kde.org
5. export KDEDIR=/opt/kde
6. ./configure; make install for all packages (libs and support first)

I just did that for 1.1pre2 on a SuSE 5.2 systems -- works great
(and kxicq compiles and executes, too).

Or you can wait ... some time ... for the binary packages.
