1. WHOIS Formatting of WHOIS output has been changed to a better structured and therefore better readable form. Type 'whois -h whois.nic.ch <domainname.ch>' for an example, where <domainname> is a secondlevel domain name registered in Switzerland. The entire content of the WHOIS database has been updated and is available for public FTP access from ftp.nic.ch in directory /data as file 'ch-li.db' (currently 1.896 MB). Any organization or private person writing tools to access this database (e.g. search engines) is kindly asked to publish related information in newsgroup ch.network. SWITCH is already providing access to this database (from URL http://www.switch.ch/domain/search_form.html). Records of the database should be checked by registrants and modified when necessary. 2. Documents Policy, fee and application documents have been upgraded (as we hope ;-)) to version 3. The e-mail application form now closely resembles output from the WHOIS database (see above). The majority of changes were imposed on the policy document, reflecting experience of the first weeks. Nearly no changes were done to the fee document. The HTML page containing links to other registries has been extended. 3. Input forms Three different types od application forms are accepted now for automagic processing: a) an ASCII version of the application form submitted by e-mail (preferred method); b) an ASCII version of WHOIS output submitted by e-mail. Since this is only useful for modifications an implicit M-flag is assumed; it is therefore necessary to explicitely specify a D-flag for domain name deletions; c) an HTML application form from www.nic.ch. 4. Distribution list Announcements regarding domain name registation are published via mailing list 'dom-reg-info'. Check http://www.nic.ch for subscription instructions. 5. Aggregated bills CH/LI DOM-REG ships lists of domain names associated to ISP's in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. ISP's should check the billing contacts for these names and state for which domain names bulk invoices are desired. This action takes place next week. Marcel Schneider@SWITCH
