POSITIONs in COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS

       Department of Computer Science
       Computational Linguistics Group

What:  2 Research assistants for 2 years

Starting date: Summer 1996 (no later than October 15)

Qualification: Diploma/Masters degree in Computational Linguistics or 
in a related area (computer science, linguistics) with minor in 
Computational Linguistics. Programming skills in Prolog and good English 
skills are required. Skills in LISP, knowledge of grammar formalisms,
and logic based semantic representation are an advantage. Knowledge of
German is another asset.

Task: Development of an answer extraction system over UNIX man pages 
(translated into a knowledge representation language). An input to the 
system will be a natural language query (in English). Output will be a 
natural language answer tailored to the query. The system will build on 
existing NL processing software. The project is sponsored by the Swiss 
National Science Foundation. 

Benefits: 60'000 Swiss Francs/year; PhD work possible; modern working
