4.5-Day Workshop

June 1-5, 1998 / Vienna, VA

Part of the Spring Seminar Series
Presented by:

---------------------------
Intended Audience:
---------------------------
Administrators and network managers, performance specialists, storage
managers and other technical staff responsible for host-based or
Client/Server Solaris systems will benefit. The course addresses general
considerations so those managing other UNIX offerings such as HP-UX, AIX,
SCO and Linux, or Windows NT will also benefit.

----------------------
About the class:
----------------------
Capacity planning is like gazing into a crystal ball - it's predicting the
future. As Solaris and UNIX systems in general are deployed into
mission-critical environments, the value of capacity planning, system
sizing, and integration into larger environments increases rapidly, as do
the consequences of potential mistakes.

This seminar addresses the practical matters of mapping business problems
onto realistic and cost-effective configurations of hardware, operating
environments and applications. Emphasis is placed on what must and can be
done without extensive theoretical study - the only math required is a
typical calculator.
The course topics include the basic requirements of nearly every major
application system, including usage data collection, workload projection,
selection of processor, storage and networking subsystems, allocation of
dynamic resources in the data center, and tuning the installed system.
