For more information contact: Dr. Fengshi Yang Music Director East Meets West Music Arts 708-357-6714 Music of the Silk Road to Launch East Meets West Music Arts 1996 Season East Meets West Music Arts, a multi-cultural ensemble composed of Chinese and American players dedicated to improving the understanding of Chinese culture in America, directed by its founder and conductor, Dr. Fengshi Yang, will present its New Year's Concert, "The Half Moon is Rising in the Sky---The Music of Silk Road" on Sunday, January 14, 1996, at 4:00pm in Pfeiffer Hall of North Central College (310 East Benton, Naperville). The concert which is co-sponsored by North Central College represents a major collaboration of many ensembles and individuals. Three area choirs---the Naperville Chorus, the Naperville Chamber Singers, and the Naperville Chinese Choir---join together performing in both Chinese and English for the first time. Guest soloists--Carol Loverde, soprano, Theresa Chang, soprano, Roger Scanlan, tenor, and from New York, Lianshen Yu, tenor--perform newly arranged folk songs with the East Meets West Music Arts String Orchestra. Of special interest are the traditional music on the Pi'pa (Chinese grand lute), Nocturne, Fengshi Yang's newly commissioned composition for French horns, flutes and classical guitar, and Borodin's orchestral piece, "In the steppes of Central Asia". The combination of folk music and art music inspired by the regions surrounding the ancient Silk Road provides a most interesting program for all. Admission: $15.00 ($20.00 for preferred seating). Tickets and information: 708-357-6714 or 312-332-8307
