Goto Dell and try to buy a PeeCee with no OS and watch them charge you to take off the OS <really, that's the case, call them and see>. What you have is a company that dictates to you how you're going to buy a product... and they're tieing the sale of one item (a PC) to the sale of another (The OS). IBM got in big trouble when they were under the same type of scrutiny by tieing the sale of computers with the sale of a service contract. Then there's the whole Xenophobic mentality by MS --- if it wasn't born in Redmond it needs to be squashed completely..... Example 1: Java --- MS has tried to splinter it off so that they have an incompatible version of Java that they can control. Example 2: Why use DNS when MS can tie people to WINS??? Example 3: MS doesn't like the fact that Novell could go out and develop a centralized authentication scheme NDS --- so MS preannounced technology that they hadn't even begun developing just to stop Novell from leading the market.... I'm talking about Active Directory here. Example 4: Instead of using existing standards for file sharing (ie NFS) they developed SMB. Example 5: Predatory pricing against their competitors... They used their profits from other areas to fund the give away of IIS in an attempt to gain control of the HTTP Server market. That should be enough of examples of MSs monopolistic practices for now. > >Monopoly laws are made for one reason only, and that is to protect the > >market.
