I did look into AFS as a science project since my need was to utilize a third party cloud provider and not become my own cloud provider. OpenAFS is part of the standard Fedora yum repo but not Centos. There are some weird requirements like the first machine must have the lowest IP address which seemed questionable. Probably could have gotten it going but it started to become a lot of work and I really don't have a use for it now but it was interesting to read about. I hadn't heard of AFS before. Just signed up with SpiderOak and it seems more intuitive and has some interesting FOSS modules that might prove useful. The out of the box file sync control is much more intuitive than Dropbox' (I still can't find documentation describing how it works). SpiderOak lets you define syncs but it doesn't seem to apply any kind of rules to that sync. That's OK however. It'll work for what I need to do easier than Dropbox. I'll still use Dropbox too but much more carefully. Now I have 4G of cloud storage for free. Remember when the local ISPs here would only give you something like 10MB total for your web site?
