A 386/33 should be able to handle a lot more than 2000 hits/week, though of
course 'hits' is a really bad way to measure utilization.
Short of getting your own T1, the best options for having your own web pages
online, in increasing order of cost, flexibilty, and bandwidth, are:
1. Find a site offering a 'free home page'. (usually one per customer)
2. Sign up with an ISP that lets you set up your own personal web pages as
part of the standard account. Most Chicago providers offer this.
3. Buy/borrow/barter space on an somebody else's server.
4. Sign up for 'virtual host' service with a provider (see #2).
5. Arrange for colocation with an existing service (your machine on their LAN)
6. Get your own T1 (or faster) connection.
All of the above options should be faster than trying to run a web server over
a modem or ISDN connection, though of course you don't get to experience the
<SARCASM>joys</SARCASM> of setting up, securing, and maintaining your own
server and local network.
