It would be a convenience to all of us if local ISPs were permitted (and
in fact encouraged) to post a _single_ announcement of a _significant_
development to chi.internet _only_.

The advantage would be to put us on notice of something new so we could
check it out if it might meet our needs.  For example, I'm vaguely
thinking about ISDN.  I've wasted a lot of time scanning the local ISP
home pages to see what each has to offer.  An X in the ISDN column in
the Chicago Area Providers List isn't enough to really alert anyone to a
significant change in terms that we might want to look at.  I would
appreciate being able to scan one newsgroup for new developments of that
sort, and chi.internet would be the logical one.

Of course, abuse is possible and we could find ourselves awash in
announcements of trivial developments designed to keep a particular ISP
in the public eye.  But I suspect the usefullness of legitimate
announcements would outweigh the annoyance of overreaching posts, and
that the usual hue and cry would discourage abuse.  It's worth
discussing, in any event.
