As a long time lurker, I would suggest that announcements such as the new
POP for WWA, would be appropriate in this (chi.internet) group. Cross
posting to chi.forsale seems to be pushing the commercialism a little and
only a single post from someone identified with the ISP (eg. Karl = MCS)
would seem sufficent.
I think such announcements should be limited to major items. Adding a few
modems to a POP or changing internal configurations (even if they may
actually improve stability or performance) would not seem to be major in
terms of posting an annoucement here.
A possible guideline would be, if the change would result in a
modification to Randy Smith's ISP List matrix, it could be called major. I
did not review all of the items included in Randy's matrix, so this may
not be such a good guideline.
Sending the info to Randy via e-mail and noting this in the announcement
seems like a good idea. That way Randy does not get overloaded with
multiple copies of the announcement from "helpful" readers.
Another suggestion would be to put [Announcement] in the subject line and
include the name of the ISP. (eg. [Announcement] WWA adds Schaumburg POP.)
Just a few thoughts - please comment further. I think the split off of
chi.internet from chi.general has been very benificial in keeping the S/N
ratio down in both groups.
