sms spam

I got another spam sms message today, the last one almost exactly two
weeks ago which was the first text spam since I got this phone two years
ago. I'm on a prepaid el cheapo plan so getting dinged whatever it is
they ding me (i think 6 cents) is troubling and if this increases as
spam tends to do it will render my phone useless as spammers will eat
away all my prepaid money.

The From on the text is some email address -- not a phone number. Do
most providers have ways of stopping this? I'm not going to make a
federal case over a couple of messages. I'm very careful about giving
out that number so not sure how the spammer got it. I suspect two
people however, one being my ISP because the first spam came shortly
after I gave them my cell as a contact number.

Both spams are hawking something from Best Buy but I doubt they're
behind this. In the second text they wanted me to enter a 4 digit
number so this was more sophisticated than a normal text. My phone is
just a simple cell phone that does voice, SMS, and MMS texts and that's
it.

I objected numerous times to T-Mobile over the years. They finally came up
with blocking. Even so, I'd still get SMS spam occassionally. They can
never explain why. At 20 cents each, which is more than I'd pay in per
minute voice overage charges, it was outrageous.

Still, you've got to admire the pure profit of SMS.

Serious question, I'm not being precociously stupid.

Are you guys talking about chat messages? Because I got about 1 every
2 days for the first few weeks I had this phone. They were always
from people like Jenna booty shake or Karen hook up tonight.
Obviously I blocked all of them but I wouldn't really expect that to
have much effect on what the piers to be a rotary name selector

anyway, if SMS equals chat then I got some too.

I never got anything like that. It was a short version typical of various
email scams.

If you have AT&T you can report the spam and they block the offending
number.

copy and paste the message to 7726 and they'll ask you to follow up with
the offending number. This is AT&T only.

Mine came from an email address. From my experience with email spam,
there is no way to create an email black list for spammers. I'll check
with my provider if I get one more within the month. If this stuff does
come from email it would be trivial for them to block anything from that
gateway to me.

Eric, it's like any other spam. The headers are false. Even if they're
real, they wouldn't use them in future.

I got similar texts from a mope who appeared to be texting her
girlfriend or potential b-friend. I finally called her number and left
a voicemail telling her that "pops" wasn't interested and maybe she
got the wrong cell number. I left the v-mail using a "jive" voice and
hip-hop language. Fun with Trixie stalkers !
