Apparantly a few sellers realize there is a demand for old obsolete scci drives on ebay. maxtor 540s 540meg drive $195 selling price.... Connor cp30540 540meg drive $173 So its price is dictated by the fact that not too many people will be selling these in the first place making them harder to come by. I just snagged the connor one for $20 shipping included and installed it in my sampling keyboard. http://www.ferrari-dvd.com/EmaxII/101_0125.jpg any readers here holding onto vintage computer items if so whats the reason? This keyboard and another piece of gear I have uses 3.5 inch double sided double density floppys. Those are getting harder to find also.

Those are getting harder to find also. I think I still have drives like that. You probably have the last operating connor drive by the way. Its odd people haven't migrated that legacy shit over to some flash drive with an SCSI connector on it yet.

It apparantly works but I wasnt ready for the challenge and the extra money.

The interface wouldn't be the problem is much as the controller, which is probably embedded. Remember back then, most models of hard drives were available for years, so the controller likely had a hard-coded parameter list for the drive. Back then when you formatted a drive, you usually had to stick in the # of platters, heads, even rotation speed. All that and it's probably an 8-bit or 16-bit firmware, limiting the max numbers to deal with well below even a "small" drive these days would have for cylinder and sector counts. I suppose something real small, like a GB or two might work but I'd bet anything they have something in the controller firmware so it only worked with one or two particular drives specifically, mostly to make sure you went back to the company for an expensive replacement. -bruce bje@ripco.com
