Oh, I don't know if they're *that* unreliable.  They're certainly not
the greatest in the world, but at work we've got a network of far too
many (1000+) Sun-3 workstations.  Many of them are rebooted less than
once a quarter, and some of the servers have been up for nearly a year.
I wouldn't run life-critical systems on them, but on the whole they're
not too bad.

Mind you, this is from a user's perspective, not an admin's.  And this
user religiously reboots his workstation once a week, Just In Case.  :-)

Come to think of it, maybe the network problems we do see are the direct
result of not rebooting the servers more often...
