The weekly stats posting is just that: statistics. Facts. It is a fact that
in the week cited sites gagme and trinity moved more than 12 megs of traffic
through clout and chinet moved more than 6 megs. It is also fact that these
files moved without difficulty and that clout administrators noted nothing
abnormal about that. In other words, the email system worked just the way it
was intended.

As administrators of the clout project our charge is to make sure that the
smaller email sites in the greater Chicago area can move their mail around
efficiently. Unless there is a technical problem, such as incorrect
addressing or lack of spool/storage space, it is none of our business what
the content of those mailed files might be. All we're supposed to do is
make sure that the email goes through. Like the Post Office.

The weekly stats postings from clout are here for two purposes: to let those
unfamiliar with the project know that we're here and to let those who have
generously donated their time, knowledge and equipment (yourself among these -
thanks Randy!) know that the system is being used and they're getting their
money's worth. Wether the system should be used for emailing .gif's, ftpmail
of source code or other high volume applications is a policy matter for the
steering and/or funcspec committees and/or for the system administrators of
individual sites to determine and police locally.
