Strange that you write this, John, considering you followed with a tirade which was another screenful detailing a bunch of stuff you understood to be Randy's concern. > 1) If clout has the capacity to pass the volumes of traffic that it > does without degrading service then what does it matter? Does it indeed? The spool space has never been threatened? You know this for a fact? > 2) I don't see in the slightest how the large amount of traffic via > trinity and gagme are affecting either Suess or chinet. It affects all of us who depend on clout for email. The fact that the gagme sysadmin is also a clout sysadmin and takes care to not overwhelm the spool space is of little consolation. It still depends on luck to not have some other request from another system making similar FTP requests blindly by email intersect with those from gagme or trinity or any other site. This is a form of email roulette. Some time the spool space is shot, perhaps the contents lost. > 3) A lot of the traffic passed via clout to gagme over the last > few weeks has been for me. And if clout, because of your self-indulgences, lost my email, what would this professed responsibility do for me, beyond perhaps offer profuse apologies? > 4) The clout admins have publically stated that there is nothing wrong > with the amounts being passed. As generous as the clout sysadmins are with their time, and as greatful as I am for their efforts, the sun does not rise and set about them where the system is concerned. There are lots of people involved, lots of issues beyond straightforward administration. There would probably be no comment whatever regarding the quantities of email going to any given site were the infrastructure better equipped to handle bulk mail. That's the entire point. There are those of us who are willing to take risks. Those who will pass around a blind curve, or send massive amounts through clout taking a risk without considering the feelings of passengers. The fact that no one has been coming in the other direction (most of the time) grants absolutely no feeling of confidence in future forrays. Although I am part of the project, I am just about >< close from contacting uunet to get the little bit of important email I receive at igloo reliably. Given the donated facilities and the donated time and energy by so many, don't you think it a shame that I need to feel that way? Bill Vajk
