Anyone want a Gothic revival building to help with paying off the Trib's
absurd debt load that's sure to sink everything? I'm sure you'll have no
trouble getting rid of pesky landmark status so balconies can be hung
from the facade. You'll have no trouble obtaining that TIF subsidy to
convert the building into residential.

Pffft.

On the news yesterday morning it was reported 3 of the larger tenants in the
Sears Tower are looking for new digs.

I'm going to wait for that to up for auction.

Neat thing about it, you can be shit faced drunk 20 miles away and zero in
on it.

Seems more useful.

I regret I didn't have the opportunity to urinate off the top of that before
I fled.

I don't think I've ever been in Sears Tower and although I didn't piss off
of it, I did make it up to the roof of the Standard Oil building.

A freind of mine was doing some kind of maintance work and had these simple
"contractor" id badges that would let you roam around pretty much anywhere
you wanted to. This was all in the pre-9/11 days.

I don't remember if I met him down there for a reason, like grabbing dinner
or whatever but after looking around at the shop in the basement he said I
have something neat to show you. It was obvious from the number of elevators
we transfered from (some only went 2-3 floors before you walked across or
down the hall to another) where we were going but the last door he opened it
was sort of neat seeing daylight.

So I went with him to look around on the roof.

There are railroad tracks along the edge which is for the window washing
rigs, I never crossed those, thus never looked straight down from the
not-really high wall that surrounds the top.

But it was neat looking straight across the sight line and only seeing
horizon, and the top of the John Hancock Center "like across the street".

I remember watching the light bulb on top of the Hancock, I think, getting
changed on TV.

Or maybe it was a new antenna.

Point being, this guy's sitting right at the top, and the camera's apnning
around, and I still have the fingerprint impressions in the arm of my
leather sofa.

The media sob-fest whenever 20-50 tv/radio/paper jobs are cut is
pathetic. I hope the trib ends up outsourced to bangladesh, with the
remaining Buick drivers/subscribers still drinking the kool-aid.

The east low-rise of the tower is expendable and make for nice condo
views..JG
