FLATWATER CLASSIC PADDLE & PEDAL
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!

Friends requires a large variety of people to volunteer for this
year's Flatwater Classic Paddle & Pedal event.  Scheduled for Sunday,
August 13th, the Flatwater is a canoe/kayak race and a fun bicycle ride

all in one.  Volunteer jobs vary from bridge spotters keeping an eagle
eye on the course to registration volunteers to people to help take
boats out of the water for tired racers.

Below you will find a brief listing of the available jobs for this
years event.  Please contact me if you have any questions about any of
the jobs.  I hope you will find something to help out with.

The Flatwater Classic requires almost 200 volunteers so we need all the

help we can get!

Clark Park Volunteers
----Starting line for the Canoe/Kayak Race----

-Registration Volunteers:  people to help with the registration table,
boat number distribution, Liability waiver and general check-in tasks

-Tent Volunteers:  people to help coordinate activities at the
volunteer check-in tent, voyageur check-in tents and the starting line
tents.  Tasks include helping distribute materials, ensuring waivers
are signed and support for the starting line announcer.

In-Course Volunteers
----Includes bridges over the river and jobs along the 7 ¼ mile
course----

- Bridge Spotters:  volunteers who are the "eyes in the sky" for
the event.  Bridge spotters are safety volunteers that report any
accidents, emergencies or other pertinent information to the race
director the day of the race.  We need two volunteers per bridge so
bring a buddy!!

Available bridges are:  Belmont - Western - Diversey - Damen -
Fullerton - Ashland - Chicago - Grand - Madison - Van Buren -
Roosevelt

- Photographers:  people to take photographs of specific aspects of the

event for use in Friends' publications throughout the course.
Photographers will be given a specific area and list of photographs
that will need to be taken for the event.

Ping Tom Park
----Finish line for the Canoe/Kayak Race and Starting & Finish Line for

the Bicycle Ride----

- Shuttle Loading Zone volunteers: people to help coordinate the
loading of the shuttles to the starting line and to the parking lots.

- Take-out Volunteers:  Racers will be very tired so these volunteers
are there to help the racers as they are leaving the water.  We need
people to help remove boats from the water at the finish line and lift
the boats over the seawall steps to the park.
