Looking for a deep-woods type camping area which involves hiking in, at least a couple of miles. Anyone know of anything like this in the Chicago/Northern IL area?

For the real thing, go /way/ north. trent -- "This user has a pattern of behaviour in the usenet group chi.forsale that borders on abusive."

Well... define your idea of deep-woods in Illinois?
There are 100+ miles of trail at the Hennepin Canal, your never very far from
people, yet you can get to places where you don't hear cars, trains or
planes (which is pretty good for Illinois). Heading west from Sheffield
is pretty quiet... the camping locations have pit toilets, some have water,
others don't (but there is usually a Caseys General Store within a mile or
two walk from the campsites). I've seen people hike in on the I&M trail as
well, but it's much more traveled, when you get out near Mineral or Ananwan,
you may not encounter anyone else...
