Linux "supported" for use in hall computers?

G'day. I presently (on my own time) admin two machines set up for public
access in Konkow Hall running linux; one is my own personal box, and the
other an older machine given to House 5 without any software (the HD
wasn't even partitioned) I installed linux on.

Residents here in Konkow are quite happy with this solution; in fact,
several folks in House 5, upon receiving the older machine, specifically
requested that I set it up to work similarly to my own (which uses KDM,
WindowMaker, etc. for ease-of-use).

The honors program will soon be purchasing two new computers for Konkow.
I made a strong argument for using linux on these rather than Windows
(based on security, stability, remote administration, etc) to the Honors
Program folks but was informed that all software must be "officially
supported" to be used on these new machines.

Where can I find the list of "officially supported" software, and, if
necessary, with whom do I speak about having things added to this list?

Thanks!
