Cuando abres un archivo, le das una direccion del tipo:

/ftp:host:ruta/al/archivo

Tambien funciona con ssh, scp y no recuerdo que mas. Ve el modo "tramp".

Hay mas de una alternativa; en particular ve ProjectWizard y
SimpleProjectManagment en

Con php-mode, ESC-TAB te muestra que funciones de PHP coinciden con lo
que llevas escrito. Una vez que te decidiste por una, con  `C-c p' te
muestra su firma en la linea del fondo de la pantalla.

Si, para casi cualquier lenguaje, y los que no vienen "por defol" se
agregan. Los tipicos (C y derivados, shells, etc.) obviamente ya vienen.

Si no te gustan los colores que vienen, y no quieres configurarlos a
mano, una muy buena alternativa es el paquete color-theme. Escoges una
combinacion prefabricada por el nombre, y ya.

En todo caso, lo que la lleva en demasia, es el modo Ediff (diffs y
merges interactivos, contra el CVS, etc). He visto cosas similares, pero
con uso preferente del mouse y obligado de interfaz grafica; con Emacs
ambas cosas son opcionales.
