I don't know if the chile newsgroup is the right place for this but its the only one that I could find that had anything vaguely related to the next world jamboree. I assume this will start a bit of mail storm but who cares isn't the jamboree all about meeting people of different nationalities and cultures. Anyway just to pin my flag to the mast. I've been selected to lead the Derbyshire County Contingent (UK) to the next World Jamboree and would be interested to hear from anyone in the world who is also in the same predicament :-) The Derbyshire contingent is likely to consist of the full 36 Scouts most of which are male and are currently being selected from all over the county. At this stage we only have 15 named Scouts who are going to the Jamboree but by the end of March we should have the full Unit in place. As contingents for the Jamboree are formed, it would be nice to set up a network of pen-pals beforehand so Scouts can have one or two international 'friends' well in advance of the event and in this case they know they will meet up in Chile in 1998/9. For those outside the UK, Derbyshire is a county of approximately 1M people, it is to be found in the middle of England about 130 miles (210km) north of London. In the north-west the county itself borders the city of Manchester. The main attraction in Derbyshire is the Peak District (which I think was the first National Park formed in the UK). The Peak District is centred on the southern end of the Pennine hills, which comprise of limestone (the White Peak) and millstone grit in the north (the Dark Peak). A number of stately homes are also to be found in the County, one of which Chatsworth (home of the Duke of Devonshire) is used every 5 years for our own County Jamboree (next one Peak 2000). Some of the better industrial known names from the area include Rolls Royce (aero-engines), Crown Derby (porcelain) and even our own Toyota plant. There are however a number of other industries including clothing manufacture, upholstery, engineering, mining, quarrying and agriculture all of which make up which make up a mixed economy. The county also has its own industrial heritage with the worlds first large weaving mill being set-up along side the Derwent river in Cromford. I trust anyone attending the Jamboree finds this information of interest and look forward to hearing from anyone else who I will be happy to meet in Chile in 1999. Yours in Scouting Ian Judson Derbyshire Jamboree Unit Leader and ASL 3rd Sandiacre.
