CALL FOR PARTICIPATION AND PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT
OPENFORUM'92 STRATEGY AND BUSINESS CONFERENCE
``Open Systems in a Single Market''
Royal Dutch Fairgrounds, Utrecht, The Netherlands
November 25-27, 1992
Open Systems users, manufacturers, system vendors, software
developers are all benefitting from the features and capabilities
provided by Open Systems. This conference will examine how each of
these groups is utilising the advantages of Unix and Open Systems
to increase their productivity and will provide solutions to
specific problems encountered by their organisations.
CONFERENCE FORMAT
In addition to invited key-note addresses by top level executives
and plenary sessions conducted by technology leaders, the OpenForum
strategy and business conference is composed of three main
elements:
o Panel sessions which provide multiple points of views on topics
of interest to users, developers and marketers,
o Submitted paper presentations which provide a more in-depth
report on a specific topic or relate experiences within the
industry,
o Tutorial seminars which provide training in specific topics of
interest to end-users, developers and system administrators.
PANEL SESSIONS
Eight panel session tracks are planned for the OpenForum strategy
and business Conference:
o New to Open Systems
o Organizational advantages of Open Systems
o Interoperability
o Technology futures
o Open Systems solutions
o Economics of Open Systems
o Procurement in industry and government
o Migration strategies
Some tracks may run concurrently. Sessions will be 1.5 hour in
total length. Your proposal is to include the topic, content and
intended audience for a session, specifying how it relates to a
particular track. Your proposal is to also include the names of
three qualified panelists and a biographical statement from the
author. Proposals must contain at least 200 words and be
typewritten.
You, in effect, are the architect of your session. You propose the
panel session's topic, content and intended audience, specifying
its relationship to the conference theme. Depending on the focus of
the proposal submitted, the panel sessions will be placed in one of
the eight tracks listed. During the months that precede OpenForum
you will work in conjunction with the Program Committee to select
and instruct the three speakers who will make presentations during
that session. On site, you or a designated moderator will present a
short introduction to the topic of the session and, after the
speakers have finished, offer a short wrap-up of the key points
made and lead a short questions and answers period. Session which
are merely excuses to promote a company's products are poorly
received and therefore have little chance of being accepted.
SUBMITTED PAPERS
Submitted papers can address the topics below or other topics
deemed to be central to Open Systems:
o Application portability
o Interoperability
o Open Systems and network administration
o Migration from proprietary environments
o Human considerations
o Standards and products
o Security and risk management
o Transaction processing
o Access to "old" information and data
o Distributed Open Systems environments
Extended abstracts must be submitted by March 15th., 1992 by post
or e-mail to the Chair of the strategy and business conference
programme. They must be 1000-1200 words in length and be
typewritten. The proposed subject should relate specifically to the
conference tracks or topics. Content should reference current and
new material. In addition to a short biographical statement
specifying the author(s) experience as it relates to the proposed
subject matter, the intended audience should also be specified.
Accepted submitted papers should be from 8 to 15 pages in length
and fit into a 20 minutes presentation. Authors must be able to
meet the August 15th., 1992 deadline for submission of the final
paper. Authors who do not meet this deadline will not be allowed to
present their paper. Papers which merely profile a company's
product are poorly received and therefore have little chance of
being accepted for presentation.
IMPORTANT DATES
o Deadline for abstract submissions: 15 March, 1992
o Acceptance notification: 10 May, 1992
o Deadline for final papers: 15 August, 1992
