It's 09 Jul 98 04:27:29, We'll return to mkruk@netcom.ca and All's discussion of NT Workstation disk image mk> I have had success in doing so using Powerquest's Drive Image but mk> there seems to be a trick ... mk> <soapbox out> mk> You need a DOS partition, i.e. multi-boot. mk> <soapbox put away> I've got it working with Ghost (any version 3.1 up tested). No extra partitions needed, just a DOS boot floppy with Ghost on it. FYI, my example involves servers, but is fundamentally the same. One other variation I use is removeable hard drive bays and "pre ghosting" the boot drive to a spare, so if the boot drive fails, simply turn the server off, swap drives and turn it back on. 5 minutes (most of which is spent waiting for NT to load :) ), and you're back in business. :-) Disk geometry isn't a problem with this method either. mk> I have heard that there are "SID" programs that will also correct this mk> problem and perhaps someone can offer information on this as I have mk> heard little else. SIDs are not a problem in the case of backup images, the workstation will simply continue as though nothing happened. If it's a member of a domain, and the backup is "oldish" (more than a few days), you may have to remove the workstation from the domain and rejoin it, because the domain SID is out of sync with the server. . Transwhateverism is no big deal, unless you are a shrink. -- |Fidonet: Tony Langdon 3:632/367.2 |Internet: tlang@freeway.apana.org.au | | Standard disclaimer: The views of this user are strictly his own.
