hi

i currently have NT4 installed on my machine and would like to also put
Win98 on my second partition. I have FAT16 on both of my 2 partitions.

When I run setup from the Win98 CD in NT it doesn't let me install and tells
me to try it from DOS. When i do this it runs ScanDisk and then restarts
the machine without making any changes, so 98 isn't installed.

I've even tried to set the second partition to be the active one using
fdisk, but it won't let me do this either.

how do i get Win98 on the second partition?

please help

First you'll need to boot from a floppy with the basic Win98 dos files (fdisk,
format, etc.) Format the second drive with the copy system parameter (ie format
d: /s). Next, edit the boot.ini file located in your c:\ and add a line for
Win98 to access your second partition (which is bootable now). Reboot and
select the new entry, this will take you to the second partition and boot to the
Win9x command line. Place a copy of mscdex.exe in your d:\ and install your
dos/win9x cdrom drivers from floppy to your d:. Reboot again to d: and make
sure your cdrom drivers loaded. Run setup.exe from the win98 cdrom with the /is
option and the rest is a normal install routine. Let me know if you need the
proper boot.ini arguments.
