   Because uucico doesn't use the same protocol that your terminal program 
does (at least, I'm betting that you're not using UUCP-g as your transfer 
protocol).  ZMODEM is a streaming protocol, so it has almost no vulnerability 
to high latency lines and it scales well with connect speed.  UUCP-g in a 
windowed protocol, so it is vulnerable and has limited scaling to connect 
speed; many implementations understand only the 64 byte packet size and the 3 
packet window, making it a really bad choice for high latency connections and 
increasingly inefficient with faster connects.
