Tradition means nothing around here at CWRU, I've learned. It's all about some intangible "prestige" that we really don't have and about keeping a tight bottom line. It sure as hell isn't about education most of the time (a few notable exceptions and incredible efforts aside). I have some very bitter attitudes about this place... I love it a lot... that's why I'm still here. I love students. I just... I just feel like a betrayed lover. This school as screwed me and everyone else over so many times I want to leave... but I *can't*. I think I can change it for the better, I know that if I work hard enough it will change. It never does, though. It takes my money, takes my time and sucks the life blood out of me. At 30, 40 or later I'll realize I've spent my whole life staying with a loser thinking I could make a difference when it turns out nothing has changed. I'll leave, dejected, just to get a phone call a few months later asking me for money or something else. I'll end up feeling insulted, but will feel compelled to give anyways, because of our previous long-term relationship. Corny? Maybe. Truth? More than I like to admit. Good analogy? I hope so. I really believe this. (O course, I speak solely as an alumnus to this University.
