| What is the situation regarding ISDN in Cleveland -- a number of months ago
| there was a very informative posting about what Ameritech was going to do
| and who to contact. Unfortunately I did not save the post.
|
| Questions are:
|
| What are the current costs to set up ISDN from home? Installation, hardware,
| ISP costs, monthly line use charges -- still by the mile/minute???
|
| What hardware do I need to add -- I see that Motorola makes a product called
| bitsurfer -- is it any good??
|
| What software is necessary -- do the ISP's provide it???
|
| TIA for your help,
|

As 1 of the people who is using ISDN, it was a REAL hassle. I ordered
my ISDN in Aug 1995. It was finally installed by late October. I really
never did get a straight answer.. But it works!.

The current installation cost of the ISDN line is $116.50. My particular
line cost's about 49.80 a month. BUT I have been billed since
installation!.. So I can expect a big bill..

The only draw back so far is the fact that ALL ISDN is being delivered
from the 621 co which is downtown Cleveland. Not a problem. Ameritech
absorbs the cross office costs!. Another possible draw back is is you
are too far from the CO and then you might have to have a "line extende"
and that is $29.00 a month!

There is a TON of different options....

Another quirk is this.. They tell no problem, but I live in the 942
exchange, and everything east of me is a toll call from Cleveland.

I asked what if I dialed a number from the analog port to something that
is a toll call normally from Cleveland, and local to me. They stated
that is still a local call for me as they have to provide the same call
coverage as your existing service.

I am using a BitsurFr Pro and and NOT a problem. I was using a TA210,
the early version, but was able to upgrade. The Pro has to analog ports
you can use. The ringer equiv. is --Hmmm- not even listed. But is very
low.. 1 phone or modem and no more.. I blew the TA210 because I had to
phones on it

Every thing else you need to know and do not want to know is available

Start with http://www.ameritech.com and go from there...

Good luck
