I would like to announce the launch of The Cleveland Freenet Memory Project on October 1 1999. The project has two main goals. The first goal is to preserve the knowledge, community and friendship generated by The Cleveland Freenet. The CFNMP website attempts to accomplish the preservation with several applications which include: A fully searchable database of all freenet hierachy newsgroups. If a message was on the news server under the freenet hierarchy as of this morning 9/30 it was captured into this database and will still impart its knowledge to the future. An searchable Email/Webpage registry. The detailed user information from The Cleveland Freenet directory services was captured (community users, SIGOP aa accounts and SIG xx accounts only) and is browsable and searchable. If a forwarding address or a webpage is available it is listed with this record. As well as the ability to update to current email/webpage info. The second goal is to to act as a clearinghouse for information regarding, as well as organizing people, creating a New Community Computer resource. The applications assisting this are: A threaded webforum for discussions, announcements and news related to the past, present and future of Cleveland Community Computing. A community calendar listing events such as concept meetings, programming get togethers, beta testing schedules, SIGOP orientations, community steering commitee meetings, proposed launch dates of the various community projects and other events. There are also several groupware applications including whiteboards, trouble ticket tracking, chat rooms and a private webforum available to developer teams and beta testers of New Community Computer resources. The site is also hosting several evolving projects realted to a group of programmers who hope to replace the loss of CFN with a web-enabled Community system by new years day. They are taking applications for beta testers for November and SIGOP applications for December. More information will be available on the site. The goal of this site is to bring people with ideas, programmers with the skill and the community with the drive together to show CWRU and the rest of the world the power of community computing resources. As well as the power, resolve and downright enjoyment of the people that use them. I will release the url for The Cleveland Freenet Memory Project tommorow when the site goes live. Thank you for your time. Feel free to send an e-mail with your comments, questions and info. And Please forward and repost this where relevant. Virtually Yours Dan Krumlauf boz@musheen.com
