Much of what has happened in the ISP industry has been driven by
customer demand for "cheap" mass market internet solutions. And
the result is often a reduction in a customer's ability to receive
customer service...or deal with trained, knowledgeable personnel.

The "bigger is better" mania that is sweeping the ISP industry
(and a number of other businesses, I might add) does not always
result in the economics of scale working in the favor of the
customer...many times the money goes to the investors/speculators
rather than into staff and infrastructure.

There are better run ISP's that exist, some of which are local
and approachable...many smaller ISP's have better uptime and
capability than the big names do.

If you are encountering issues that are not to your satisfaction,
vote with your checkbook. But be sure to look at more than the
size, name and price, if you care about service and reliability.
