Sorry, it sounded like the municipal and state taxes were supposed to
have been abolished too.

That's great. The original poster was in Ohio, as I am. We *do* pay
federal sales tax and receive... well, what passes for representation
..in Congress. I was replying to the original poster. Until today,
when I read your two posts, I didn't even know you existed, and I was
not replying directly to you.

as I said... it sounded to me like the states were supposed to collect
this federal tax in lieu of the federal AND LOCAL taxes...

Rex, my followup wasn't directed towards you, it was directed towards
Rudy, who as far as I can tell from the headers was the originator of
the thread. I apologize if this sounded like a personal attack, but
hey... your articles had not even shown up on my computer when I wrote
that. And as a generalization, well, I understand DC doesn't have
representation in Congress, but I'm speaking as a resident of one of
the fifty states that does.

Deal... I've got friends in Maryland and Virginia... I'll just party
