Papa John's

1259 N. High St.

421-1700

12' Pep & Mush, $11.48 (thick crust)

The pie;

While I am trying to keep everything on the same playing field, I was less
than pleased to find out you cant get a thin crust on a 12" at Papa John's.
I have no idea why this is, but will still try to be objective. The crust
was chewy but not real dry. It had good taste, but the bottom wasn't brown
or crispy. The crust edges were also very think, making it more like a 9 or
10" pie, than a 12.

The sauce is very good. Not real spicy, but a definite hint of garlic. It is
the best part of the pie.

There was a VERY limited amount of toppings on this pie. As the most
expensive pie thus far, I would have expected much more. What little topping
there were, most were gathered to the center. Given the large crust edges,
and the toppings towards the center, it seemed like an 8" pie. The cheese is
good, and that seemed abundant enough. The pepperonis were also tasty, but
as stated, there wasn't enough. Same with the mushrooms, but the did appear
to be fresh.

This pie is served with one small green hot pepper. A nice touch, but only
for one person to enjoy. It also comes with a thick butter-garlic dipping
sauce, which while bad for you, it is very tasty, however, I believe it is
required to eat the outside 2" of this pie. Overall this pie needs work. It
bland, and only the middle 4" has only mediocre taste.

I give this pie a 4.5.

The place;

This locale does not offer eat in capabilities, thus, I will not score it,
however, I will comment that the counter area, windows, sills, floors,
doors, and walls, were all very dirty. It definitely could use a good
spring-cleaning.

_____

This is a weekly installment of a pizza critic called The Pizza Nazi.

The Pizza Nazi is a 43 year old campus native, and will critic an OSU local
pizza shop every week. He will always try to keep a standard of eating in,
and ordering the same type of pizza. He will separate the pie rating, from
the restaurant rating, in the event some shops don't offer eat-in
capabilities.

The Pizza Nazi welcomes opinions, comments, disagreements, and even
suggestions.

The final rating system will be on a 1 to 10 scale, and is as follows:

1- very poor, terrible, very bad

2- poor, not good, bad

3- needs lots of improvement, borderline bad

4- needs some improvement, but not bad

5- adequate, average, not good or bad

6- slightly above average, pretty good

7- well above average, good

8- very good

9- superb, hard to improve on

10- the best, great, perfect
