Sounds like its time for the list again... :) There are several ways to get to the net from the city of Columbus. Several businesses are connected, and give employees access. There are several universities, and then we have five different public access providers. I shall cover the public providers. The best public provider I've found, which is also rather cheap, is the system I'm presently on, InfiNet. Dial (614) 224-3410 (data 14.4), log in as "guest" and you'll get some info on the system. (Or, you could telnet to infinet.com and log in as "guest".) For additional info, send mail to "jcn@infinet.com" or call 268-9941 (voice). Also, there is the Central Ohio Internet Link (COIL). Slightly more expensive, than InfiNet. Dial (614) 487-0292 (data 14.4) or 487-0299 (data 2400) and log in as "guest" to get some more on the system. (Or telnet bronze.coil.com and login as "guest") Call 291-0812 (voice), or send mail to custserv@bronze.coil.com to get additional info. Next, we have the more expensive OARnet. This is a national provider based in Columbus. Call (614) 728-8100 (voice), 728-8110 (FAX), or E-mail info@oar.net. You may also gopher oar.net for their server. We have another national provider that has a "point of presence" in Columbus called PSI. For all sorts of information on them, send e-mail to "all-info@psi.com". This is the address of a daemon which will automatically send you a very comprehensive list of mail sites for daemons which cover specific topics. (It also tells you how to get ahold of real, live humans. <g>) Lastly, we have a free-net provider, The Greater Columbus Freenet. Applications are available at all Columbus Metropolitan Library branches. Other locations include Bexley, Grandview Heights, Upper Arlington, Westerville, Worthington, and Southwest libraries. You can gopher gopher.freenet.columbus.oh.us for their server. (Or, you can call (614) 292-7501 (data 14.4) and login as "guest" and get the same thing.) (Some information will not be available to you if you haven't been verified.) You MUST have a valid library card to get validated. Email help@freenet.columbus.oh.us if you need more info. (Please note, those who haven't been verified can NOT telnet to the site and login as "guest". The system will give you a little message and then break the connection. Only verified people may telnet to the site.) And while not a "public" provider in the strictest sense of the word, the Ohio State University does maintain an interesting gopher server. So, I'll mention it. gopher gopher.acs.ohio-state.edu. Additional information or corrections to this list should be sent to dionisio@infinet.com. -- And the Thought of the Moment (tm) is...
