A new event has been added to this year's Mobot Competition -
MoboJoust.
#############################################################################
MoboJoust is a head-to-head competition between vehicles that resembles
two
knights battling on horseback. At the start, vehicles will be facing
each
other from opposite ends of the arena. The objective is to cross your
finish
line (your opponent's starting line) before your opponent crosses his
finish
line (your starting line). Each vehicle will start behind a vertical
starting
gate. The two gates are hinged at the bottom edges and mechanically
linked,
allowing them to simultaneously swing downward and forward to start the
contest. Once the gates drop, the JoustBots will each employ their own
strategies to get to the finish before their opponent. JoustBots must
operate
autonomously, without assistance or guidance from any outside source.
#############################################################################
On Wednesday March 22nd at 6:00pm the MoboJoust Arena will be on
display in the Atrium of Newell-Simon Hall. The Mobot Committee will be
on hand to demonstrate how the competition will work and answer any
questions
about the competition. The preliminary set of MoboJoust rules are
available
on the Mobot web site <http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~mobot>. (Because this is
a new
competition the rules are still evolving. Updates will be added to the
web
site, announced on the mobot bboard (cmu.misc.mobot), and sent to the
Mobot
mailing list subscribers.)
If you have a JoustBot you would like to test in the arena bring it
with
you and try it out. After Wednesday we will continue to make the arena
available at periodic intervals.
Hope to see you there,
The Mobot Committee
