Pittsburgh Software Process Improvement Network (SPIN) Meeting Announcement 6:45 - 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 1994 Software Engineering Institute Agenda 6:45 - 7:00 Networking, SPIN Business 7:00 - 7:30 Linda's talk 7:30 - 8:45 Questions/discussion Object-Oriented Development - --------------------------- Object-oriented programming is only part of the object-oriented approach to software development. The creation and increasingly widespread use of object-oriented languages has led to new methods of analysis and design as well as a "water fountain" life cycle to replace the familiar waterfall life cycle. The talk will provide an overview of the object-oriented approach including what is involved in the object model, why software developers find it attractive for large scale development, and what is the impact on software engineering practices. Linda Northrop has more than 20 years experience in the software development field as practitioner, manager, consultant and educator, and has contributed more than 70 presentations and publications to the software community. She is currently a Senior Member of the Technical Staff at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Before joining the SEI, she was associated for two years with the Department of Computer Science at the United States Air Force Academy as Visiting Professor and Principal Investigator for a Department of Defense research initiative focused on object-oriented development. Linda was a tenured professor at the State University of New York College at Brockport where she taught undergraduate computer science for 14 years. She was a 1983 recipient of the New York State Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Linda was also formerly a software designer and systems specialist for the Eastman Kodak Company, and a programmer for IBM. As an industrial consultant for an assortment of companies, she has worked on software development projects, assessed and recommended software process, and has developed and delivered software engineering and object-oriented training programs and seminars. Come join us!! Please post this notice, distribute it broadly, and extend this invitation to your colleagues who may be interested in software process improvement. We need people who can contribute their knowledge, experience, time, or ideas to make this SPIN successful. Anyone interested may attend; however, for logistical purposes, please RSVP by November 23 if you plan to attend. RSVP: Don McAndrews e-mail: drm@vaxa.switch.com phone: (412) 369-2328 fax: (412) 369-2399 If you can not attend but are interested, please contact me and I will forward information on our next SPIN meeting. NOTE: We will be collecting $3 per attendee to cover expenses (mailing, refreshments, etc.) Mission: The Pittsburgh SPIN is a group of professionals who share a common interest in the field of software engineering and software process improvement. The SPIN is a forum for free and open exchange of software process improvement experiences and ideas. We promote mutual respect, software quality, and achieving higher levels of process maturity. Our mission is to help sustain commitment and enhance skills through an active program of networking, publications, recognition of excellence, and mutual support. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Janice M.
