Subject: University of Pittsburgh health benefits...

Dear Friends,

There are hopeful signs in the movement to get the University of 
Pittsburgh to provide health benefits for same-sex domestic partners. 
As one example, the major homophobe behind Pitt's discrimination, J. 
Wray Connelly, has agreed to step down as Chair of the Board of 
Trustees in June of 2,001 even though he could have stayed on for an 
additional two years.  Nevertheless, we must let the Trustees and 
administration know that,now that summer is over, we are going to 
increase pressure on them.

Therefore, I plead with you to attend the following demonstration. We 
urgently need you to attend.

Here are the details: On Thursday, September 28, there is going to be 
an early morning meeting at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association (PAA) 
of a group called "Pittsburgh Next."  University of Pittsburgh 
Chancellor Nordenberg is attending.  My understanding is that this is 
a group of students and administration meeting to develop strategies 
to encourage students to come to Pitt and to retain the ones we have. 
Pitt's discrimination against gay/lesbian employees is contradictory
to this goal.

Therefore, we will have a public demonstration before the meeting, at 
7:30 a.m. outside of the PAA, which is located on Fifth Avenue across 
the street from the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland.  I know this is 
early but it is very important.  Finally, please forward this e-mail 
to as many people as possible. Thank you!
