cmuOUT meeting, today: Friday, Dec. 1 4:45pm @ SoHo * * * * Minutes of last meeting: *********************** (Friday, November 17, 2000, before Thanksgiving): World AIDS Day (WAD) events: cmuOUT will organize a candlelight vigil, as part of AIDS Awareness Week on campus. The week is sponsored by Student Health Services and Student Life Office. The vigil will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2000, 6pm, at the cut by the fence. Ryan is heading the project, and coordinating it with Caroline Garcia from Student Life. In addition to the vigil, we will staff an information table at the UC on Friday, handing out general information, and information about events that day (Quilt showing, free HIV testing, and name reading). Ron is working with Nancy Schmidt (Health Educator) and Anita Barkin (Director of Health Services) on setting up HIV testing on WAD. Socials: We would like to have more socials. Terry is in charge of a "dinner & a movie" social on Friday, December 8, 2000, at SoHo, starting around 7-8pm. More details to follow. Check if we have some money in the budget to subsidize the dinner. Additional socials will be planned for the spring semester. Spring Carnival: We are interested in having a Blitz Booth at Carnival. Alisa reported that meetings regarding blitz booths start next semester, and that we should start thinking of funding sources. We agreed to deal with the fundraising when we have a better idea of what we need. Tsvika offered to work on the design. Some ideas were discussed in the meeting. Valentine's Day Dance: Yay! We've managed to get Rangos 1-3 in the UC for Friday, February 16, 2001. Officer elections: New officer elections are scheduled for the end of February / beginning of March. Additional items: Ryan passed around information about the Emergent Leaders program planned for the Spring Semester (relevant to freshmen). Chris reminded us about the monthly protest for DP benefits at PITT, Saturday, December 2, 2000, 11am. (see details in message that was sent out to cmu.students.out). Terry and Ron shared some of their experiences from Creating Change 2000 (NGLTF's annual conference held in Atlanta, GA, November 9-13, 2000. This was a very positive and useful experience. We should definitely work on sending a group of people next year. Distribution list vs. electronic b-bard: Some information that arrives to the cmuOUT e-mail account is posted to the cmu.students.out electronic bulletin board (rather than being sent to the distribution list). =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ron Ophir Office: GSIA 322 Phone : 412-268-5745 E-mail: ophir@CMU.EDU URL : http://www.gsia.cmu.edu/andrew/ophir/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
