ivan-y. Ĵᵽ: : Hi all, : I am trying to write an java applet which will connect to a database : (Paradox). I heard that, to do so I will need to write a rmi server which : sits between the applet and JDBC. But I also heard that I can do it without : a rmi server? Could you tell me which way is correct? What is the difference : between them? : Thank you If you want to use RMI, the intermediate level which Javasoft recommended is needed. RMI schema need a java app. running on web server, a java applet loaded from html use RMI method call the java app., and then the called method use JDBC to access DB from web server. RMI schema separate the java applet from DB, and disable the applet from accessing DB directly. In fact, the applet call Remote Method in the java app. running on web server, the remote method do DB accessing by JDBC. so it is more safe and standard. For security, using JDBC in applet to access DB directly is restricted to access DB located in web server, it could sovled by using authorized applet in future. And in intranet, a firewall in web server can protect invade, if applet access DB server located intranet directly, the firewall can do nothing. -- [m[1;36m Դ:ϴСٺϢվ bbs.nju.edu.cn[FROM: apollo.nju.edu.][m
