lei, you are confusing threads and objects.   when a thread ends it ends.  there will
be some objects associated with this thread: namely all of the objects on the retrun
path between the entry point and the exit point.  These are eleigible for garbage
collection.  However other factors determine whether or not they are collected.   For
example, if you have displayed AWT components then there is a an AWT thread running
which may be using the applet's frame and that keeping the applet from being garbage
collected.  there is also a horrendous known bug that if a frame has a menu item then
it will never get GCed nor will anything it references.
