		CO-Newsadmins-FAQ

This document contains the most important things related to
adding and/or maintaining the co.* news hierarchy (AKA co.* Usenet
newsgroups) to a news server or just configuring the server to carry
it properly if co.* groups are already there. It is intended mainly
for news system administrators. The co.* hierarchy is the State of
Colorado news hierarchy, mainly used by people from Colorado,
a State in the Western United States. Propagation is sought
throughout North America and world-wide distribution is welcome.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
. Background

The co.* hierarchy has existed since 1992 when
newsgroups were formed in support and opposition to the then
topical political environment surrounding the Colorado voter
initiative of Amendment II.
Since then the hierarchy has largely been self run with
no permanent support, administration or coordination. It was
agreed by consensus on Friday, May 25, 1999 that coordination
of the hierarchy should be given a more concerted effort. At
that time the newsgroup co.config was created and newgroup
control messages were posted. It was also agreed that a
volunteer coordinator should be retained to coordinate and
administer the hierarchy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
. Who administers the co.* hierarchy?

The individual in charge of the administration of co.* can be
reached through the address:

coadmin <at> boyznoyz.com (Bill O'Brien)
Our web site is at http://cousenet.cjb.net

co-admin takes care of sending control messages for creating
and removing co.* newsgroups. These control messages are sent
by coadmin <at> boyznoyz.com and by nobody else.

Discussions about new co.* groups takes place in "co.config".
The document that describes how to create a new co.* newsgroup
is posted there each week. The coordinator for co.* also sends
Usenet postings and email messages to news administrators
trying to achieve wider propagation for the co.* hierarchy.

A "checkgroups" control message for co.* is being posted
twice monthly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
. Getting a feed

If you can't obtain a feed from one of your usual feeders write us.
We will find a peer near your site or will arrange a direct feed
from a Colorado news server.

. Automatic newsgroups creation

. Other sources of information

For additional information, please email the co.* hierarchy
coordinator at:

coadmin <at> boyznoyz.com

Or visit us on the web at: http://cousenet.cjb.net

We anticipate the addition of a listserver mailing list but at
present, these steps have not been taken.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
. Current newsgroups in the co.* hierarchy include:

Each month, an actual list is being posted in co.config. The
checkgroups ctl message is posted there too, but normally only
show up in control.checkgroups.
