One thing I found curious about Boulder's laws around rentals is that a landlord is not required to provide a smoke detector and a fire extinguisher. It seems to me that this would be basic safety requirements. My landlord was required to put a light in the crawl space under the house, insulate a pipe that was leading outside to rpevent loss of heat, and remove a key-type dead-bolt lock by the City of Boulder Inspectors. But when I asked about a smoke detector and fire extinguisher, I was told it was up to me.
