On a related note, I use Cascade dishwasher detergent and I get a very stubborn white residue ONLY on the cooking surface of my non-stick pan. I don't see any residue on anything else - glasses, mugs, plastic, spoons, etc. It is virtually impossible to get off. I've soaked the pan in vinegar, in plain water, and in hot sudsy water. I've tried to wash it off with a sponge and hand detergent, to no avail. The only way I've gotten it off is by scraping with my fingernail but that is so tedious. Is there a trick to this? PS: I have moderately hard water and I fill the cup about 80%

Use a rinse agent - Jet Dry is what I use, works quite well. 2.) Try running some citric acid crystals through at the same time or in a separate cycle. these will get rid of most mineral deposits in your washer very nicely. the old time trick used to be using Tang - but you can spare the sugar and food dye by just using the citric acid. It's available at moist grocers in the canning supplies aisle.
