For Sale: 1981 Toyota Tercel 2-door sedan $1100 / best offer.
I recently bought a new Camry and am selling my Tercel that I purchased
new from the Ft. Collins Toyota dealership in 1981. If you're looking
for a one-owner economy car that has had practically all the parts that
wear out over time replaced, consider this one. I know the price seems
a little high, but remember that almost all of the $100 to $300 repair
jobs needed on similar older cars have already been done.
Specs:
* 105K miles (many highway)
* 2-door, 1.9l 4-cylinder, 5 speed manual transmission, 32mpg avg.
* Alpine AM/FM/Casette, BostonAccoustic speakers.
* License plates are $22/year.
What's been replaced within the past couple of years:
* Starter, Alternator, Head and many running lights, dash lights.
* Spark and coil wires, Distributor cap and rotor, timing belt and gears.
* Exhaust system including muffler and all pipes and hangers.
* Water pump, heater and radiator hoses, completely rebuilt radiator,
thermostat, radiator cap, fuel filters, fuel pump, fanbelts.
* Clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, cable.
* Sears DieHard battery, Toyo all-season 40K tires (10K wear).
* January 1995 Emissions test sticker.
Accessories included:
* Ski rack, cable chains for radial tires.
Maintenance:
* It has had regular maintenance, including the 15K, 30K, 60K, & 90K
tuneups done by the Toyota service center. For parts that wear out
over time, I used genuine Toyota parts when available.
* I have always used Toyota brand air and oil filters when changing oil
(3000 to 4000 miles). The engine does not burn oil -- I am never more
than 1/2 quart low after 3000 miles. (However, the rubber valve seals
do let a tiny bit of oil into the cylinder when it's been hot and the
car is left overnight. Toyota Service Center said this is typical and
not worth changing.)
* I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car across the US if necessary, since
it's been practically rebuilt.
Negatives:
* The worst thing -- it isn't a bright, shiny color. I tried some of
that new "miracle 2000" silicone wax and it just smeared all over. I
think a good paste wax will fix it up. Alternatively, Maaco probably
will have one of their half-price Supreme Paint jobs for $200 in the
near future that would make this baby shine like new again.
Anyway, if this sounds like what you're looking for, let me know and I can
arrange to show it to you after the first of the year. Please feel free to
email or telephone. My office is at my home, so any time between 9:00 am
and 11:00 pm is fine. Leave a message on the machine if I'm not in.
