In the rush to get finished with the legislative session, both houses of the General Assembly passed HR 97-1198, the so-called same-sex marriage ban. Except the bill may not just band same-sex marriages. It may also ban common law marriages, as well. The bill's final language says that a marriage is only valid in Colorado if it has been "licensed, solemnized, and registered," and is between "one man and one woman." The same-sex argument aside, if you have a common law marriage, this bill should get your attention. I urge that you contact Governor Romer, immediately, and let him know you will be very unhappy if your marriage is declared invalid as a result of this badly worded law. -- Best Wishes, Me "The space aliens checked the Earth for signs of intelligent life. After listening to talk radio and reading IRC, they decided there was none and went on to the next planet."
