: The riots in Boulder and along Federal Blvd. in Denver : seem to share two common factors: the age and the attitude : of the rioters. The ages were late teens through early twenties. : The attitude was they had a "right" to do whatever they : wanted, no matter how badly it harmed others and the : community. : Conservatives and libertarians attempt to lay social problems and : problems of youth and young adults at the feet of : liberals, sometimes rightly, sometimes wrongly. However, : concern for the welfare of the community and civil : responsibility are primary liberal family values. : These values appear absent in the attitude of these rioters. : Conservative policies have dominated state politics in : Colorado seemingly forever, at least since the : Reagan revolution of 1981. Not even Govs. Lamm and : Romer can be called liberals, not when compared to a : Mario Cuomo, certainly. : The age demographic for these rioters seems to exactly : coincide with having been born about 3 - 6 years : prior to the Reagan revolution, the revolution kicking in : just as they started attending school, just as education began : to be subject to conservative socialization. It may just be : a coincidence, but these young people seem to share the : sole concern for satisfying immediate individual appetites, : perpetuating the conservative and libertarian "me generation" : thinking of conservatives and libertarians of the 80's. : Since conservatives and libertarians appear in part to be the : creators of these belligerent rioters, it seems appropriate for : a concerned citizen to ask, out loud, how conservatives and : libertarians propose to keep their monsters from killing off the creator? : More laws? Or wouldn't it just be cheaper and more efficient to teach : them and the generations to come those good, old liberal family values of : concern for community and civil responsibility, and then reap the abundant : benefits that always follow? : We're in trouble, folks. And it aien't the liberals who : put us there. : -- : Best Wishes, : Heretic : "The space aliens checked the Earth for : signs of intelligent life. After listening to : talk radio and reading IRC, they decided : there was none and went on to the next : planet." One can hardly call Boulder "Conservative". Denver is also Liberal. Now, in C. Springs which is Conservative, have you seen any problems ??
