How can you possibly blame the workers and their >unions? what measure of control can you possibly imagine that >they had in the process? Well, IME, most of the problems I've had with domestic cars have been *quality control* problems....misassembled parts, missing parts, broken parts...general shoddy workmanship. That seems to have changed somewhat in recent years, and for example, I'm very happy with my Dodge Ram 3500 pickup....I've had *one* thing go wrong...that was an intermittent connection in the fuel level sender which seems to have fixed itself. Now I must admit that I just got a recall notice to have the fuel heater wiring checked, as it may have been "left out", but compared to my HUMMER, which spent probably 40% of it's first year in the shop, it's a dream come true. OTOH, I have a friend with a Toyota pickup who has put 270,000 miles on it and has replaced *one* wheel bearing and the alternator. So, auto workers have to accept their fair share of the blame for the disparity in quality between American and Japanese automobiles.
