Winiger Ridge Forest Restoration & Trail Project September 29 & 30, 2012 Come and join us in the fall for a fantastic restoration and trail project in the mountains just west of Boulder. Winiger Ridge is known for it's significant wildlife habitat and wide range of recreational opportunities. The work site is where the ridge extends into Gross Reservoir creating a peninsula. The elevation is about 7,400 feet and the views of the lake, mountains, and fall colors are spectacular. This should make it a perfect place to work and camp in late September. Recently, Denver Water and the US Forest Service have improved the access road, designated camp sites, built a parking area, and closed some of the damaging roads that were impacting the shoreline of Gross Reservoir. These changes were made to mitigate human impacts and improve wildlife habitat and water supply. VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES WRV volunteers will be constructing about 1,230 feet of new trail providing access from the new parking area to campsites and the lake shore. Volunteers will be plant native seeds, install erosion matting, and mulching 1,100 feet of closed roads that will be decompacted with heavy equipment. We'll camp in a beautiful area near the work site. Food is provided by talented veteran WRV cooks! Friday night arrival is encouraged to get a great start in the morning. We still have spaces left, so hop on board and register now for this much-needed restoration work! To celebrate Public Lands Day, volunteers will receive a free pass for entrance into a National Park or other federal lands fee areas. More details will be sent after you register - about 7 days prior to the project. Register for this Project: http://www.wlrv.net/colorado/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.events&type=792#Event877
