Georgia Pass-Glacier Peak Rehabilitation Project September 8-9, 2012 New Fencing Project Dates! August 29-30 Your Help is Needed! We are thrilled to be gearing up for one of our largest alpine projects of the year and happy to announce a new additional date for helping with staging and fence construction- August 29. Come and join us on what is expected to be a beautiful fall weekend, spread alpine seed, enjoy the changing fall colors and stunning views, and camp with us! This project will feel like a vacation away from home. At our luxurious base camp we will have at a beautiful creek side site in the valley below where we will be working. The couple hour drive from Denver gives us the feel of a real mountain escape . Wildlands Restoration Volunteers (WRV), working in partnership with the Friends of Dillon Ranger District, has teamed up with the Dillon Ranger District to restore a section of road that unsustainably runs directly up to this alpine peak. Our goal is to work with local users and community members to encourage sustainable use of the area while rehabilitating highly eroded areas such as this road. VOLUNTEER WORK On August 29th (and potentially 30th if we don't finish) we will be staging materials using high clearance off-road vehicles and constructing buck and rail fencing to close the area off. If you have have a truck and want to help with moving material please email jarret@wlrv.org . But don't worry if you drive something with the clearance of a Prius, we would still love to have you up there for the day helping with fencing. Click here to register for fencing project: On September 8th and 9th (Saturday and Sunday), we will be repairing over a mile of eroded road that is washing out and unraveling the alpine vegetation. The project will be an opportunity to learn and have fun doing a variety of technical restoration skills including installing erosion matting, seeding, installing straw wattles and much more! In addition to trail construction we will also be closing a portion of unsustainable trail and restoring it to natural forest conditions. At 11,600 feet in elevation, this moderate to difficult work will focus on: obliteration of a quickly eroding road and restoration. We will camp in a beautiful area down the valley from the work site. Food is provided by talented veteran WRV cooks. Friday night arrival is encouraged to get a great start in the morning. This project is still in need of 60 more volunteers. Please help us spread the word about this fun project to your friends and neighbors so we can get this important trail work done. More details will be sent after you register - about 7 days prior to the project. Register for this Project: http://www.wlrv.net/colorado/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.events&type=792#Event871
