Holy smokes! This brings up another interesting question: what are people paying for their campus networking? }We could also buy "Internet-to-your-office" services (EtherJack or }AppleJack), at $15 per month per connection, but we could buy a new hub in }each month for the number of connections (about 80 currently) in our }department. Ah, that seems pretty reasonable. Yes, but you'ld have a lot more bandwidth. Our telecomm charges $14/month for an ethernet to your office or lab (that's cheaper than the phone in the office and for a lab of 5-15 machines (daisy chained) the cost is insignificant compared to the other costs of running the lab). I find it odd that some departments do complain about $14 for a network connection, but not about $18 for a phone -- if my department wants to save money, they can have my *phone*! I am surprised that your users aren't screaming for more bandwidth (80 people sharing 1Mb/s) -- we have no shortage of people wanting more than 10Mb/s to their office!
