mail spool solutions

Thanks to everyone who answered my question about my filled mail spool.

The general concensus is that no mail should be deleted, and you
shouldn't read any mail unless is is neccessary, then only by things like
grep to determine if it is mailing list generated.
Some people suggested useful changes to the mail software, but the
most common solution suggested was to move the mail into the users
home directory where it will use up thier quota.

I found that the users were willing to remove most of the mail when
a notice was placed in the motd, and mail sent to the most abusive users.
The motd pointed out that if the spool filled, no new mail would come in.
It seems to have scared people into cleaning up.
Two users had runaway mailing lists. One (at least) always exits with
'x' rather than 'q'. Everyone else (but one) has cleaned out thier spool.
The two runaways I moved to another partition, and sent mail to thier
bosses to see if the accounts were still active. Cool.
