Augusta Technology have been commisioned by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to produce a CD-ROM presenting the results of the Intelligent Systems Integration Programme (ISIP) and encouraging the general commercial application of Intelligent Systems (IS) in UK industry. (For this purpose the term 'Intelligent Systems' is deemed to cover all those computer systems which attempt to emulate or assist human capabilities in the areas of decision making, plannng, scheduling, and data analysis.) Examples of the technology include Knowledge Based Systems (KBS), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), and Genetic Algorithms (GA). The CD is to be produced as part of the DTI Information Initiative (ISI) series and will be distributed free to between 10,000 and 20,000 managers in the UK. It will run under Windows 95 and Windows 3.11. In order to provide the recipients of the CD with evidence of the successful application of IS solutions we are distributing this message to to a large number of UK-based software and computer service providers to request case studies and demonstration software for inclusion on the CD. This represents a valuable opportunity for such companies to reach a large potential market with evidence of the usefulness of their products at no cost. We anticipate that each case study will equate to approximately 2 to 3 sheets of A4 in length and be presented under the following headings. Title. If client confidentiality must be preserved an indication of the industry sector would be helpful. The Problem. An outline of the problem that was solved. The Application. An outline of the application and the IS tecniques that were used. The Benefits. Some indication of the business benefits of the solution. Generalisation. Suggestions as to the wider application of the solution. Contacts. Details of contacts related to the case study, both the suppliers and clients (if confidentiality is not required). Whilst receiving contributions in an approximation of this format would be useful to us in reducing our workload we are happy to receive any material covering the above points which we can edit for inclusion. If you are likely to be able to contribute material to this project, or would like further information, I would be delighted to hear from you as soon as possible.
